What is a gear rack?
A gear rack is an elongated component with a series of teeth. It is used to transmit power between one or two gears. When combining gear racks and gears, care must be taken to ensure that they use the same module.

What does the module of a gear rack mean?
The module of a gear rack indicates the size of the tooth of a gear rack.

When do gear rack and gear fit together?
So that the teeth of the gear rack and gear can mesh without problems, they must have the same module.

Do the iglidur®® plastic gear racksneed to be lubricated?
No, the iglidur® gear racks do not require any external lubricants.
 
I need a special geometry of a gear rack, is that possible?
Yes, that is possible. We will be happy to advise you, also with regard to the right material. You can enquire about your customised gear rack at [Link extid="378" title="Hier"]. We have no minimum order quantity and anything up to several million is possible.
 
How are the iglidur® plastic gear racks manufactured?
At igus® the gear racks are produced using three manufacturing processes:

  • injection moulding with iglidur® high-performance polymers
  • Mechanical CNC machining from iglidur® bar stock
  • 3D printing with iglidur® SLS or FDM materials
