High performance kites are used for cost-effective power generation: Airborne Wind Energy Systems are up to 90% lighter as common wind power plants that consist of a tower plus heavy generator. They are also producing up to 50% more electrical energy for the same rated output. In this system, a kite - a wing made of strong but flexible and lightweight materials - is tensioned in a carbon frame. This kite is the equivalent to the wing tips of the conventional turbine. The carbon rods are connected with small angles to be adapted to the shape of the kite. An industrial offer that guarantees the transfer of the compression- tension- and shear forces was searched. igubal® fork heads and joint heads from igus® turned out to be the perfect solution: They are lightweight, flexible and adjustable.
